Worshipping Gaudi

We began our second day in Barcelona by once again visiting Gaudi's cathedral, Sagrada Familia.

The line was still quite large, but fortunately moved quickly, so we were inside in virtually no time.

And can I just say.... WOW.

It's the most incredible building we've ever seen.

No need for words, really.

I even took a video of the ceiling.

Even now, it's still not finished. Its construction spans centuries, in great part because of the fact that its construction is funded entirely from donations from the public (now including visitors paying for entry). One of the first areas that Gaudi influenced was the spectacular Gothic entrance.

Here I am taking a photo of someone else with their camera. Very exciting.

We liked the turtles. They're apparently a metaphor for the middle ground between heaven and hell (which is what church is supposed to be). Here's Tom scratching one.

They have a very interesting little museum (so to speak) documenting the various stages of the construction downstairs.

This is what it will look like once it's eventually completed.

There's also another little museum that goes into more of the architectural details next door.

We did have to leave eventually...

But kept enjoying the view.

Loved it. Just loved it. What else can I say?
