Mussels in Brussels

The gloomy weather followed us from Amsterdam to Brussels, where we had some fun trying to find our hotel.

I managed to snap a couple of photos of buildings from underneath my umbrella.

We went for a walk to the central mall area, and had to quickly step aside to avoid being run over by this machinery. Their safety measures are a little more lax than Australia's!

Brussels' central square is pretty fancy!

It didn't take long to find our way to one of Brussels' most famous landmarks - the little mannequin pis statue. A very small statue of a little boy... I won't say it, you can see for yourself.

The nearby chocolate shops certainly made the most of him.

We had been told that we absolutely had to have mussels in brussels, so we found a restaurant that offered them in abundance.

We also got little cheese croquettes. Should have just got more mussels.

Steak for Tom, and the top-hat shaped mussel shell bin.

More mussels for me!

The top hat was very useful in fulfilling its actual purpose, too. Tom didn't put it on his head after this.

And to top off all of that mussel perfection, a Belgian waffle! Bliss!

From there, we made our way towards the train station to make a little afternoon trip out to Bruges. Before we could do that, we had to scratch a nearby chocolate elephant.

Tom was much more interested in the beer temple.
