Taking on The Louvre

After getting to know Paris a little better by bus, and stopping to refuel at a lovely little bistro, we felt ready to tackle The Louvre in earnest.

The Louvre was one of the first major museums that we were actually allowed to take photos in, so I kind of went a bit nuts. We weren't quite sure what to think of the statues on the right, below. I'll let you figure out why.

Wouldn't a marble clawfoot bathtub like this be fabulous?

We got a bit excited when we saw some paintings of the interior of the Doge's Palace in Venice, because we'd actually been to that very room when we were there what seems like years ago!

This set of paintings was pretty incredible, showing many many paintings within each painting. Tom was captivated.

And then, of course, the moment we were all waiting for, the Mona Lisa.

These were the crowds pushing and shoving to get a good photo of her.

We snapped our pics and moved on.

Tom found yet another Louis reference.

The ceiling, with a safety net beneath it...

Doorways as far as the eye can see!

It was interesting seeing how the different types of marble in the pattern on the floor wear over the years! The brown colour holds up a lot better than the rest!

Tom's shoes still managed to slip and slide fine on it, like in Versailles.

And then to the Egyptian section!

I found a good model of what my next house will look like...

And had a stern chat with a horse/donkey.

Tom did some meditation...

And then he compared assets with a statue...

We marvelled at how much pasta a pot like this could make!

Whose chin is bigger?

I did another Marilyn...

Tom found a friendly ram...

I got involved in a shoot up.

Actually, several.

Tom tried to empathise with this guy by stabbing a pen towards his eye. He obviousl forgot to remove his glasses first, though.

Why are there never enough chairs in art galleries and museums? Tom really wished this chair wasn't behind glass.

Speaking of chairs, after trudging around the Louvre for hours in the only shoes I had that matched this dress - not good walking shoes, I was exhausted.

We treated ourselves to a little pick-me-up in the cafeteria.

And then emerged into the light of day once again. In case anyone doesn't realise this, the Louvre is ENORMOUS!!! Wear very comfortable shoes, and allow a lot of time (and regular rest breaks).

Unfortunately for my poor feet, the day didn't end there. Much more to come, as always!
