Beach Time, Baby!

Because a day driving around in regional French wine country wasn't relaxing enough, we decided to stop off at Biarritz on our way down to Spain. It's reportedly a fantastic surf beach, and we couldn't wait!

First we did a bit of a coastal drive around to see what we could see...

And then we miraculously found a fantastic park only a few blocks inland, and strolled our way back down towards the water.

Of course, I found a few doors along the way.

Tom briefly considered sneaking in this very fancy gate to see what was inside...but reconsidered.

And then we saw it. Ahhhhhh. Who doesn't love the beach?

Tom and Dave had a laugh at this tiny car, and bet that it was so small they could lift it up. They couldn't.

We really wanted lunch by then, and tried really hard to find some basic fish and chips. Unfortunately chips weren't available, but "ships" were! So we ordered those. Can't argue with the French.

And then we wandered down onto the beach with our "ships".

Tom unbuttoned his shirt in the heat and went for a walk up the beach to deposit our rubbish in the bin. He wondered why he was getting strange looks, until he realised he looked like this. Money belt showing much?

In the absence of a beach umbrella, I went for the next best thing.

Tom dashed straight off for a swim (after removing his money belt first, you'll be pleased to hear).

We watched the surfing school in action... some things are the same the world over.

And admired this dog's commitment. Waiting patiently for his owner? Or begging for his stick to be thrown?

I briefly dipped my toes in the water... and went straight back to my umbrella.

Tom adopted a new form of sun protection once he emerged from the water...

And we decided to move further down the coast to see what else there was to be seen.

We decided we absolutely had to have an ice-cream about then. We were slightly less desperate than this guy...

And enjoyed the view from a higher viewpoint.

What keeps encouraging Tom to bare his stomach I really don't know! Sorry!

A little baby harbour - very nice.

We eventually tore ourselves away from the view, and paid a quick visit to the nearby Sainte Eugenie church.

We stopped in a nice little gazebo in the square outside the church, and Tom decided to do some preparatory Pamplona stretches.

Can you tell he's getting excited? Next stop... PAMPLONA!
