Paris in the Morning

After our evening in Montmarte, we started our next day by activating our two-day hop-on-hop-off bus ticket (pre-booked back in Australia), walking to the closest collection point at the Opera Garnier (opera house).

We then saw the Vendôme Column...

The Vendôme Column, a crane and the Eiffel Tower in the distance make for a very striking skyline!

And drove up the Champs Elysees...

We saw the Grand Palais...

And more tree trimming techniques...

And more paving techiques!

And more pretty buildings...

And then the Arc de Triumphe again. See here for the pictures we took of it on our first night in Paris.

As expected, the traffic around the arch is insane.

The bus made a loop around the arch and then worked its way towards the river Seine.

We got a lovely peek at the Eiffel Tower. We just can't get enough of it.

And of course, there were other lovely buildings to look at...

And then we passed the Eiffel Tower in earnest. Aahhh. Just love it.

The lovely view straight through its legs to the Ecole Militaire, the miliary school.

We were even treated to a little show. Someone screamed "immigration police!" (or something like it), and all of the African (I think) mini Eiffel Tower souvenir salesmen picked up their goods and started sprinting across the nearby park. Obviously they're not exactly legal. It was quite funny. We probably shouldn't laugh because there's no way we'd want to be in their position, but they are so very pushy trying to make you buy their little Eiffel Towers that it's hard to feel sorry for them.

It didn't take much to focus us back on the Tower.

And the very pretty buildings.

Oh, and the Eiffel Tower. Have I mentioned that we love it? It's from the other side this time, on the road that lies between the grounds of the tower and the Ecole Militaire.

We crossed over the bridge to the other side of the river again.

We hopped off the bus near the Louvre...

We stopped at a lovely little bistro for lunch (see more about it here), before psyching ourselves up to tackle the Louvre properly.
