Beautiful Bruges

We hopped on a train to take us to Bruges from Belgium in the gloomy afternoon. One of the most interesting views from the train window was of this bicycle-park (i.e. a carpark but for bicycles).

It was still drizzling when we reached Bruges an hour or so later, but we were still thrilled by its beauty.

Tom got very distracted by some unfinished paving. We just can't forget home improvement, can we?

We wandered for a little while...

We decided to stop somewhere so Tom could try Belgium's strongest beer, Strong Henry.

And then we kept wandering.

We stumbled across a little pub that had this sign advertising many many many varities of 'fruit' beers. We had to go in to sample some.

And then we kept wandering...

Feeling a little hungry, we stopped over for some famous pomme frites (potato fries), which were apparently invented in Belgium. They gave us so much garlic sauce with them that they were literally swimming in it. We had to stop by a nearby drain to get rid of the excess.

We had the incredibly good fortune to stumble across a concert by the local bell ringer, who plays an entire repetoire on the bells in the Bruges tower. It was fantastic.

And to top it all off, coffes and a Belgian waffle!!!

And with the time drawing near when the last train would leave for Belgium (where we were staying that night), we made our way back to the train station, admired the quite impressive fountain, and moved on.

Bruges (or Brugge to the locals) was absolutely lovely. We would very strongly recommend it!
