pour améliorer, meaning 'to improve', is a humble record of our renovation, home improvement and landscaping projects, with our travel adventures thrown in.

Cheers!

We arrived in Munich, in Southern Germany late in the afternoon, and spent a bit of time getting ourselves settled.

We then decided that the first thing on our agenda had to be the Hofbrauhaus, the world famous beer hall filled with Bavarian beer, Bavarian food, and no Bavarians, just tourists.

First step was figuring out the very complex underground train system.

The place itself was very easy to find.

And it was noisy, and joyous and very very Bavarian. To the point where we were entertained by live Bavarian music.

Tom ordered one of the famous large steins of beer (which are apparently called something else by locals). Even I had a sip.

What else could you eat in a German beer hall than sausage and mashed potato?

By the way, Tom's face is red in these photos not because of an excessive quantity of beer (at least that’s the story he’s sticking to), but because among the things we didn’t think to take with us up the Jungfrau in Switzerland the previous day (aside from warm clothing and suitable shoes) was sunscreen. We managed to beg some from some fellow diners at lunch time, but some damage was already done. Fortunately because I spent most of my time with my scarf wrapped around my face I was spared. See the whole thing here.

Anyway, back to the more important topic, our dinner... the other essential Bavarian order was a pork knuckle of course! This one was absolutely fantastic. They say Germans eat everything from a pig except its Oink. That would appear to be true.

In case it isn’t obvious, this particular pork knuckle was absolutely delicious. I highly recommend it. So does Tom.

The Hofbrauhaus is an unmissable Munich experience.

Once we’d had just about enough Bavarian enjoyment, we negotiated the underground once more and headed home.

More exploration of Munich tomorrow!
