The Black Danube

We decided that the best possible way we could enjoy Budapest by night was on a cruise, just as the sun was setting. We had been offered a few cruise options at the tourist office at the train station and at or hotel, all above 3700 Korints (the equivalent of about $20 AUD a person). Not bad, but we thought we could do better.

And we did! We decided to hold off booking advance, and wandered down to the river after dinner and found a boat offering 2100 per person ($11.30 each AUD). There were only about 10 people on it. Perfect. Done! And it was the best investment we could have ever made. The banks of the Danube at nightfall in Budapest are spectacular. No other word for it.

Satisfied that we’d done just about the best thing we possibly could have done on our only full night in Budapest, we hopped off the boat and strolled our way back to our hotel.

Of course we had to imitate statues along the way if we could.

We didn’t imitate this one, but definitely spent a moment missing Allie terribly.

And then when we got back to our hotel I had to wish the beautiful furniture good night. Actually I’m not quite that crazy, but I did gaze at it lovingly before pressing the lift button, and I did have to snap a last couple of photos of it in its beauty.

So that brings us to the end of our first few hours in Budapest. So photogenic that it needed two posts! Just you wait for our massive next day!
