At The Crack of Dawn

Sorry about the long day guys, I'm now officially very behind on blogs, having spent the last week in places where either the Internet has been way too expensive in our hotel to even consider it, or in places where we simply don't have the time to sit down for more than a few minutes at a time (unless we're stuffing our faces).

Better make use of this time then, eh? And so begins our story of visiting Prague. We arrived at Prague at four o'clock in the morning. Yes, 4am. Since the train trip from Budapest to Prague (through Slovakia) was to take about seven (sometimes eight) hours, we decided that we should do it overnight. Except the latest train left at 8pm, getting us to Prague at a dreary 4am.

We set out to find our hotel as usual, having to stop every couple of metres because Tom was having serious issues keeping control of his suitcase and keeping the skin on his fingers at the same time. I think it's a testament to how bad this was getting that when he saw this red belt lying in the gutter along the way, he grabbed it immediately to improve his chances of actually making it to the hotel.

We did make it to our hotel, so crisis averted for the moment. But it had now become absolutely critical to sort out some kind of better fix for this poor suitcase. Not right then, though. Right then, we managed to sweet talk the front desk into giving us a room really early, and we collapsed for some real sleep for a few hours.

Then, and only then, were we able to get out and actually experience Prague!

I think Tom may just prefer this kind of view to that of old buildings.

In case it's not becoming obvious, Prague's Old Town is beautiful!

This is its famous clock tower in the town square.

We were absolutely starving, so decided to grab some traditional potatoes and fresh roasted ham from a little stall in the square. It was nice, but incredibly expensive! Won't be doing that again!

We stopped in at a few souvenir shops, fell over at the prices and left again. Not before taking a moment to admire the real worms inside little tequila bottles! Yuck!

Tom tried a free sample outside the Absintherie (just a green slushy, essentially).

We eventually stopped near the river. The opposite bank looks like this. Gorgeous.

And we had to admire the very cute little doggy doo doo bags on offer at a little park nearby.

As night began to fall our stomachs took control again and we had to find a restaurant. And like it was meant to be, we found this fantastic pontoon on the river itself!

It also had a slightly grumpy looking dog statue at its entrance, so we were definitely sold.

Oh, and a cool dumb waiter system to get the food up from the kitchen.

And...drumroll... the food was fantastic!!!!!

Not very Czech Republican I'll admit, but really good Italian food!

So we sat there and enjoyed our first sunset in Prague overlooking the water, eating Italian food. Perfect!
