Our structural engineer has reviewed our initial hydraulic study (see more on that here), and told us we can lower our ground floor height by 300mm!!!!
Which gives us this (approximately):
So, not only have we just raised the house by an extra 300mm (the fact that the numbers are the same is just a coincidence) to give us a bit of extra height downstairs, but we can now have that much extra height by going lower as well! Woohoo!!!!!
That gets us more than the extra 400mm that we needed overall to make the downstairs ceiling legal height, so we're all clear! Sorry, I can't stop with the exclamation marks!!!
So this means our 'Epic Fail', although still epic, is totally recoverable, and we haven't wasted the tens of thousands of dollars we just spent on raising the house. Hurrah!
