To Tuscany!

After finishing our tour of Naples, Pompeii, Sorrento and the Isle of Capri back in Rome, we set off the next morning into Tuscany.

Our accommodation was booked outside of the town of San Gimignano, so we got off the train at Poggibonsi station, and then waited for a bus to take us to San Gimignano.

Here’s Tom hiding behind a pole while waiting. Not entirely sure why.

We arrived in San Gimignano, and set about figuring out how to get to our accommodation.

Discovering that there was no public transportation that would take us to the door of our “villa”, we decided to make the most of our time in San Gimignano.

San Gimignano is known for its towers. Back in its heyday, each family would build its own tower for security. Of all of these, only fourteen remain.

Poor Tom wheeled the suitcases around for a while, until we managed to convince a hotel to hold on to them while we explored.

Tom found yet another interesting statue.

Yes. That’s Tuscany!!

All of the streets inside San Gimignano are incredibly well kept, and very well drained, by the looks of it.

We couldn’t figure out why there was a sign pointing towards a hole in the ground. Any ideas, anyone?

These we could understand.

This was the restaurant that we decided on for dinner. It just so happened that it was Tom’s birthday, so we had to choose something a little bit fancy.

First course, Pecorino cheese, pear and honey.

For Tom, rabbit in a white wine sauce with olives.

For me, ravioli in a gorgonzola and cream sauce, with walnuts.

Tom made short work of the rabbit, as any growing boy should.

And then we had to find our way from San Gimignano to our villa.

An expensive taxi ride later, and our time at Poderi Arcangelo, a villa nestled in the hills near San Gimignano, began.

It just keeps getting better, doesn’t it?!
