Our Afternoon in Crete

After our morning in Crete, the agenda for the afternoon was visiting the Akrotiri Peninsula. This is a view towards the bay from the bus. That square green patch near the water is the Allies cemetary from World War II, which we then visited.

Next stop, a monastery, nestled amongst vineyards and groves of olive trees.

Inside the outer walls was a lovely garden.

Tom was captivated by this fridge full of cheeses.

In the centre of the complex was the little chapel.

On the way back to the cruise boat we stopped off at an area with an extremely commanding view of the town (Chania) and Souda Bay.

In the war, apparently this guy turned himself into a human flagpole.

I should probably be ashamed to admit that the highlight for me was discovering two little dogs in the park.

As we left to get back on the bus, they started following us. So very cute. Guess who’s missing her own puppy?

So that was Crete. Not as spectacular as Santorini (although very little will be, I imagine), but Chania Town is very pretty.
