Enjoying Dubrovnik

We docked near Dubrovnik, Croatia on yet another beautiful day, and hopped on a bus to visit the nearby town of Cavtat. We must have taken the scenic drive, because we got some fantastic views of the city of Dubrovnik along the way.

Near Dubrovnik is the narrowest section of the country. We had two hills on either side of our bus. Behind one was the sea. Behind the other was Bosnia.

First stop on our little tour was a cute little restaurant set in what I'm inclined to call a rainforest.

Here's Tom explaining how the water wheel would work a rotisserie.

The waitresses dressed in traditional Croatian dress.

On to the little town of Cavtat then. It actually reminded us of Noosa, back on the Sunshine Coast of Queensland, in the best way possible. It was cute and sparkly and charming.

We want for a walk all the way around the little peninsula, admiring the beauty.

And bought ice creams that Tom then had to finish off in record time because we were running late for the return bus.

And then there was Dubrovnik.

I was in love.

There's a restaurant next to my office at home that I often get lunch from. The owners' son runs a wine bar in Dubrovnik, so we had to stop in and say hello. We were only sorry we didn't bring him any Vegemite from home!

Tom has grand plans to try to make one of these some day. Perhaps once the renovations are finished... eventually.

Travelling is thirsty work.

We had to get more gelato. Oh, and Tom was amazed that we could get 200 currency notes.

We needed yet more water...

Wouldn't it be fantastic to be seated at this table?

And another water stop... Tom goes nuts when there's free water, in case you hadn't noticed.

And a bit of step lounging...

We even managed to catch a passing bride on the way to her wedding.

This is the old drawbridge apparatus at one of the entrances to the walled city.

Outside of which, there were wedding guests on their way! It looks like shiny satin suits are all the rage in Croatia these days. For men!

I'm developing a bit of a thing for taking photos of people's washing lines. Hmm... What does that say about me?

We took so many photos on that day, that I'm going to have to divide Dubrovnik into two posts. So that marks the end of number one. Stay tuned for the rest of the day!
