Just Cruisin'

We boarded the ‘Minerva’ for a 15-day cruise at Istanbul.

We were definitely looking forward to moving on to places with a bit more sunshine and warmth!

The cruise boat itself is a comparatively small one, we’re told. These giant ferry boats moored at Greece dwarfed our little cruise boat. Can you spot Tom?

I suppose we shouldn’t have been surprised that we are the youngest passengers on board by at least 30 years, generally 40-50 years. Many of the customs, including dressing up for dinner, certainly cater to an older age bracket.

It’s been really great having some time on the boat to relax a bit after our frantic pace in the leadup to our departure.

We managed to spot some dolphins off the coast of Greece, and chased them around in a couple of big turns, trying to get them to perform for us.

No such luck. We did get a spectacular view of a white belly underwater, though.

And they came quite close to the ship.

We make quite a wash.

The staff is mostly comprised of Filipinos, and they put on a ‘Crew Show’ for us the other night.

This little puppet show number was particularly hilarious.

Some might say I’m too tall for this guy…

So far, it’s been good. We probably don’t need to go on a cruise again for… let’s say at least another 30 years (the slower pace has definitely been testing Tom’s patience a bit), but it’s been a great option for this leg of our journey – going from Istanbul to Venice via the Greek Islands almost immediately after Anzac Day, and getting a chance for a bit of a rest period before we hit the ground running in Italy.
