Up The Wall

Yes, we're all over the place at the moment, from painting to moving furniture to buying furniture (which Tom now knows about, and fortunately I'm still alive) to sanding the floors, which is our big task for this weekend. To add to that little smorgasboard of house-related tasks, Tom decided to make a start on enclosing our West Wall kitchen extension yesterday.

We had salvaged all of the VJ boards we removed from the kitchen a little while ago, and we had also bought a few more from a local salvage yard. So, Tom cut a few down to the right size to fit along our new West Wall of the kitchen.

Allie made sure he was taking the appropriate safety measures.

Tom hammered in the VJ boards while Daniel punched in the nails so that we can cover them with putty later (so they're invisible).

It makes an enormous difference having three quarters of a wall along there now!

It was pretty hot work, as  you can tell from the sheen on Tom's back!

The space you can see here to the left of Tom is where we'll be putting this window that we got from a salvage yard on the West Wall.

So putting up this part of the wall was an incredibly quick process once we started. But that's always the way. The big things don't seem to take so long, it's all the little details, like the boards for the two slanty ends of the extension, the window, the smaller boards for under the window, etc etc etc that take the time.

Since our main goal at the moment is to move back into the house, it's kind of important to ensure that the house has a back wall. For this weekend though, we've hired a floor sander, and we're going to get as much sanding and staining done as we can (even though we can't make noise on Sunday). Wish us luck!
