A Roof Over our Heads

Going back to the posts that I missed recording earlier in the week, Tom and I decided that our the next small-ish task to complete the next stage of our West Wall add-on was to build the roof supports to properly attach the external wall to the house.

We had one last beam to attach on top of the existing west wall. Tom put on his drilling face.

And then showed me his other manly faces.

Intimidating with his drill?

Hehe.

He then had to replicate this beam that we took out of the existing little add-on, with a slight alteration to the measurements.

Resulting in these...

I also measured up the windows we bought and figured out exactly what space we needed for the window section of the wall.

Meanwhile, Allie kept watch over the backyard.

And perfected her doggy eyes.

Tom cut the new window support pieces to size.

And attached the cut pieces of wood (shall I call them roof trusses?) between the house and the west wall.

And then we were almost ready for the roof! Of course that's when it started pouring rain, so we had to raise the tarpoulin again.

We then did a bit of demolition yard shopping for corrugated iron roofing (which really wasn't that cheap on this excursion, so in future we will probably just go to Bunnings), and then Tom got to work cutting the pieces to the appropriate size for our add-on.

And attached them. We officially have a roof over our heads! As you can see, they ripple a bit, because we weren't smart enough to put something between the beams and the iron to prevent them from drooping a little in the middle. Don't worry, I have an idea to solve that problem, but they can stay as they are for the moment.

Step by baby step, we're working our way toward a complete kitchen!
