Rest for Weary Travelers

After our massive saga trying to get out of Spain, and then a 12.25 hour train journey (and yes, that extra quarter of an hour made a difference thank you very much), we finally arrived in Beaune as the sun was disappearing.

We decided (as usual), that we could manage to trundle our suitcases about 1.5 kilometres to get to our accomodation, hoping we would find some food along the way.

The little town is adorable.

We briefly considered eating at a lovely looking restaurant that we stumbled across, but almost fell over when we read their menu, so decided instead to go for a bistro that is probably France's equivalent of your corner fish and chip shop.

Needless to say, the meal was not fantastic. But it was food, and it didn't cost us a fortune, which was what mattered at that point.

After making a valiant effort to eat the giant servings of chips, we gathered our suitcases around us (since our purchase in Barcelona we now numbered three wheelie bags - oh the shame), and got on our way again.

We arrived with relief at our little Gite, which is a common French term for a little apartment that is usually rented by the week.

And it was beautiful!

And here's the kicker. Not only did it have the bedroom and bathroom we'd come to expect from all of our hotel stays... but it had an adorable little entryway...

A very pretty second bedroom...

A kitchen, complete with dining area...

With a nice little garden view from the kitchen window (you can just see the spire of the church in the distance)...

And... wait for it... a LOUNGE ROOM!!!!

Talk about luxury! We who had become very accustomed to falling over suitcases as we made our way to the bathroom in each place we stayed, had a lounge room!

By this late stage of our journey, we were very ready for this kind of place. There was a washing machine in the kitchen, so Tom got stuck into attempting to work it to death by washing all of our clothes twice over (and his new Harrods jeans many more than twice), there was a TV that actually had channels in English, there was a landline phone from which International phone calls were free... it was heaven!

But don't think that all we did in Beaune was laze around the apartment in our fancy lounge room, we still managed to get off our bottoms and see the sights! More to come.
