Luxuriating is Nice

The weather in Nice on our second day made its apologies for drizzling on us the previous day.

We celebrated by first making fun of a very large-thighed golfing lady statue in a shop near our hotel...

And then we walked down the street towards the water, which didn't last long because I was stopped in my tracks staring at this guy on a scooter with a cat over his shoulder. Yes, he was wearing a cat like a scarf. Words fail me.

And then there were the doors...

And the brightly coloured buildings...

And the cutely named tea rooms...

And then Tom was transfixed by this apparatus being used to hoist a fridge from a removalist truck up to the top floor balcony.

We did manage to make it to the promenade, the street that runs almost directly along the water

Tom didn't waste any time getting his shoes off and braving the pebble beach.

Aah. That's the life. There's just something about a beach that makes you smile, isn't there? And it's not just because the sun's in your eyes!

There's definitely something that makes me take heaps of photos, at least!

We found ourselves a nice little spot in a cafe on the beach, ordered some drinks, and attempted to access their Internet connection. Unsuccessfully.

We quickly resigned ourselves to just enjoying the view, and ordering Italian food. Very French, yes.

We decided to relocate to the nearby couches (in the same cafe) to enjoy the beach experience some more while Tom polished off his pizza.

And then went for a swim in an attempt to work it all off.

That little black dot you see in the water just to the right of the umbrella pole is Tom's head.

We couldn't help but sit there and enjoy for another hour or so...

The only thing that actually made us leave was the fact that the sun had kept creeping up on our little lounge chair on the beach, and we ended up squished in the corner trying to avoid it. So it was back onto the streets of Nice for us (into the sun, ironically).

The good thing about the streets of Nice? The cars.

For boys, at least.

For me? The rubbish bins.

Just kidding. But they do blend in nicely, don't they?

We kept wandering our way along the waterfront, never getting tired of the view.

And then we made our way around the little peninsula to the port.

Where we got to see a few more nice boats.

And then, since we'd gone to so much effort walking all the way there, we decided we deserved a rest.

Wouldn't it be nice if all ports looked like this? Brisbane's got a way to go.

More of Nice to come!
