Basking in Beaune

Our first morning in Beaune dawned bright and beautiful. We slept in, and then eventually found the motivation to leave our little house and go in search of breakfast...ahem lunch.

Beaune is such a gorgeous little place.

We found a lovely little French bar/cafe to get ourselves a much needed bite to eat.

Aah... who can resist croque monsieurs?

Actually that was practically the only thing on the menu we could actually afford. Dining out is NOT CHEAP in Beaune!

After our brunch, we we continued wandering around the lovely little town.

We were thrilled to see that Beaune considers itself very Louis (well, Louis Véry)...

It didn't take us long to learn that Beaune takes its wine V.E.R.Y. seriously.

160 euro bottle of wine, anyone?

Needless to say, we passed over that one.

We stumbled across a little convention of classic cars...

Tom had to get a photo with them.

We got a glimpse of Beaune's famous hospice's patterned tiled roof.

Tom had a special moment with General de Gaulle...

We spotted another kind of classic car that may have got lost somewhere along the way...

I fell in love with their fire hydrants. Don't worry too much. I'm not going to start taking a million photos of fire hydrants... I think. Actually I probably would if they were all as pretty as this!

And then we found our way to the grocery store, did some shopping, carried it back to our little house, and had a relaxed evening, feeling only a tiny bit guilty about not being out seeing the sights, but not at all guilty about avoiding spending a small fortune on eating dinner out! Promise we'll do more tomorrow!
