Just Like a Real Room

Remember this room?

That's our ensuite, back before it even remotely resembled one.

Then we blocked off that doorway into the lounge (the one through which this photo was actually taken)...

Then Daniel and I cut a new doorway on the left wall of that little room straight into the master bedroom...

Then I closed in the other doorway onto the verandah by building a wall... all by myself (nearly)...

Leaving only the back wall (which is actually the front wall of the house) with its little fancy window untouched.

But this poor little room still had a long way to go! Next step was the plumbing. The plumber came and fitted the shower and basin plumbing (also the toilet plumbing, but you can't see it in this shot)...

And then I got the carpenters to put up the fibre cement sheeting on all of the walls, to cover up the timber VJ boards and provide a solid surface for our tiles to eventually sit on.

They even boxed out the little feature niche we had made in the shower wall.

And of course, the floor got the same treatment.

And I had to do a bit of a ring-around to find some timber posts of roughly the same dimensions as all of the rest of the doorways in the house. 70mm x 70mm posts are harder to find than you'd think! Anyway, I managed, and the carpenter cut them to size and attached them to the bedroom side of the doorway, finally making our hole in the wall look like a proper doorway.

And then the waterproofers came and did their thing, which certainly doesn't look particularly neat on the walls!

But is very neat and smooth on the floor. You can see the toilet waste pipe on the left, the floor waste centrally, and then the basin waste and the shower lip on the right.

And so now the view from the bedroom is this.

And I'm finally starting to believe that it's a real life ensuite! Even if there's no running water there yet!
