Date Night

Tom and I decided recently that we were long overdue for a date night. We've also been feeling really guilty about the fact that we've never explored our own city as thoroughly as we have the others we've visited as tourists this year. How unpatriotic of us!

So we set out on an adventure to be like tourists in Brisbane, Australia.

We started at the Green Bridge, which runs from Dutton Park to the University of Queensland campus, just as the sun was setting.

Tom needed a stretch halfway along.

We made our way along to the ferry terminal on the uni side of the bridge, and had a bit of a wait ahead of us to wait for the next ferry.

Tom tried to demonstrate how good he was at multitasking while we waited, making a phone call and taking a picture at the same time. Ooh fancy.

We boarded the ferry when the sun was almost set. It was beautiful.

And the city itself is pretty beautiful lit up at night.

Considering how small the city is, we've got a lot of bridges!

The casino stands out, lit up red.

As does Brizzy's answer to 'The London Eye' (which we rode here).

We still have yet to ride Brisbane's Eye. At least it operates after dark, which the London one doesn't. We'll earmark that one for another date night!

Eagle Street Pier and its surrounding skyscrapers look pretty impressive by night from the water!

We passed under the Story Bridge, which my mother tells me I crossed in a pram on its 50th anniversary in 1990.

We eventually arrived at the Brett's Wharf ferry terminal, and walked to Tassels Cafe. We had a voucher to try a few tapas dishes, and were very keen to try them, and after spending an hour on the ferry, we were definitely ready for some food!

They were gooooood.

Continuing with our touristy theme for the evening, we opted for bus, then trail travel to get ourselves home. We didn't time things particularly well, and twiddled our thumbs for a while waiting at the train station.

I think we may avoid excessive public transport use on future date nights, since we spent about three times as long getting to and from our date than we did on the date itself, which kind of put a dampener on the magic, but we're glad we did it, nevertheless. Here's to more date nights!
