Meatballs and More!

Guess what we did?

Yes, we decided to pay a Thursday late-night-shopping visit to IKEA!

I've been deliberately avoiding IKEA for about three years now, to delay the inevitable spending spree, but one thing, and one thing alone made a visit absolutely essential.

That thing is curtain ring clips.

With my sewing machine confidence boosted by my recent shower curtain repair, I'm going to try my hand at making curtains for my office. Scary! But I'm not ready to tackle anything more advanced than hemming yet, so I went searching for curtain rings with clips at the bottom that could just latch onto a simple hemmed curtain panel. And the only place I could find that sells them in Australia is IKEA! Go figure!

So, we set out to the big blue warehouse last night in quest of curtain ring clips. But of course that involves meatballs for dinner and a lovely long stroll through every single area of the store, not just a charge straight to the window coverings.

We admired this stretchy kitchen tap. At $399 it's a bit more than we're hoping to spend on our future kitchen tap, but it was fun to play with!

And we fell in love with this concept. A pull-out drawer inside a bigger pull-out drawer!

I really liked this industrial-esque stool...

The multitude of dark-coloured kitchen cabinets gave us new confidence in our plan to paint our kitchen cabinets a dark grey.

We found a few pretty mirrors...

And turned up our noses at the shelf bracket selection that we had considered before deciding to build our own.

And then we spotted this little guy! He's that same drawer-in-a-drawer-in-a-drawer concept from earlier, but he's only 30cm wide!

Ordinarily that wouldn't be a cause for great excitement, but we've got empty spots to fill that are exactly that width on either side of our oven!

At $245 a pop (including the $55 door that's the closest match to our current kitchen doors) they're certainly not cheap, but we figured the time and effort saving was something we were willing to pay for this time around. So you should be seeing some more work happening in the kitchen soon!

You'll be happy to know that we didn't forget our original purpose, and stocked up on curtain ring clips, much to my delight. Best $5 purchase ever.

We also made a very large-sized purchase that we only just managed to squeeze into my car, which I will talk about very soon as well.

Nothing like a bit of retail therapy to kickstart a few more new projects! Although I think we've exhausted our February budget already in the process! Oops.
